Beat a higher-rated rival and you gain more; lose to a lower-rated one and you drop more. That is the Elo formula, rating += K × (result − expected), where a 400-point gap means 10:1 odds. New repositories start from their size, so the ladder makes sense from day one, and a repository that stops growing slowly gives way to ones that are.
The top 100 are Legendary. Everyone below is split by ladder position into seven tiers of five divisions, V (the lowest) to I, holding the rest of the ladder in these shares: Diamond 6%, Emerald 10%, Platinum 14%, Gold 18%, Silver 20%, Bronze 18%, Copper 14%. To move up a division, overtake the lowest-rated repository in the one above; cards show how many Elo points that takes. The shares stay the same as the ladder grows, so a league always means the same standing.
Every repository on the ladder gets a league badge for its README. Copper is a plain shield and Bronze a metal one; Silver adds a crest jewel, Gold and Platinum grow wings, and Emerald and Diamond are cut gems that glint. Legendary places get a gold laurel and twinkling sparkles, places 4–10 a fuller laurel and a shine, and 1–3 gold, silver and bronze medals with a crown or a star. Maintainers can copy theirs from the repository's README dialog. Rankings use public GitHub data only: sponsorship never changes them.
